Trucks and buses often have a significant weight differential between their front and back axels. This differential challenges the ability of mobile columns to remain coordinated as they raise a vehicle. An adequate power source is required to help the columns remain in unison. Three-phase current is the best source for that power. Although it requires cables between the columns, its benefits far outweigh any inconvenience.
Battery power coupled with radio control has gained recent popularity because it eliminates the cables, but both technologies have problems of their own.
